A massive IT outage worldwide on Friday has caused disruptions to flights, banks, hospitals, and numerous companies.
The outage affected access to Microsoft 365 apps and services (CrowdStrike security software), which are widely used across various industries. Microsoft announced that it was working to resolving the issue.
DownDetector, a website that tracks user-reported internet outages, recorded significant interruptions in services at Visa, ADT Security, Amazon, and several major airlines, including American Airlines and Delta.
Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) issued a statement advising passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport: “Due to global technology issues affecting some airlines that serve DTW, anyone flying today should check their flight status before heading to the airport.”
Video footage showed hundreds of travelers stuck at DTW, waiting for the problem to be fixed.
The reason for the outage is unclear.
