Flooded icy Detroit street traps residents

A Detroit neighborhood has turned into a frozen river after an apparent water main break.

Some residents in the Joy Road near Evergreen neighborhood tell us they have been trapped inside, with many unable to move their cars.

While in the area, one vehicle was trapped inside the icy water and needed assistance from people who passed by.

“We have DWSD and DPW crews headed to Vaughn and Constance to get ice and water off the street, then will make the repair that caused the issue. We will also help get vehicles moved that may be stuck. At this time, we are not certain of the cause and apologize to the residents for the dangerous flooding, and ask the public to please avoid this area until we make it safe to drive through,” Detroit Water Sewage Department spokesperson tells MDN.
