Flint man parks his car at somerset mall in Troy then robs bank

A 32-year-old Flint man has been arrested after police say he robbed a Fifth Third Bank in Troy and fled to Flint, where he was captured within hours.

The robbery happened around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at the Fifth Third Bank located at 2282 W. Big Beaver Road.

According to Troy Police, Jaquan Coreyonteliace Burks-Burnett entered the bank wearing a face mask, gloves, and yellow glasses, and demanded money from two tellers. No weapon was seen, and no one was hurt during the incident.

After the robbery, witnesses told police the suspect walked to the Somerset Collection parking lot, where he had left a vehicle without a license plate. Detectives used Flock Safety License Plate Recognition technology to identify the vehicle and track the suspect’s movements.

Through a joint effort between Troy Police, Flint Police, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, and Michigan State Police, Burks-Burnett was located and arrested in Flint within four hours of the robbery.

He was later charged by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office with Bank Robbery, a felony punishable by any term of years up to life in prison. Burks-Burnett was arraigned on October 23, 2025, in the 52-4 District Court in Troy, where his bond was set at $50,000.
