Family of five, including three children, shot in Detroit

DETROIT (MDN)– Friends and family are mourning after a shooting that killed a mother, father and left three other family members injured.

The incident happened Saturday, July 4, in the area of Mullane and Homer street, which is near MexicanTown.

The family was coming home from a family BBQ in Lincoln Park when they noticed that several cars were driving behind them. Police say these vehicles were attempting to get past them. They pulled over to the side of the road to let the vehicles get by. That is when the unknown vehicles pulled up beside them and an occupant in one of those vehicles began shooting at the family, police said.

Maria Gonzalez, 39, the mother of the three boys passed away due to her injuries. The father Francisco Gonzalez, 40, was listed in critical condition. He has since passed away due to his injuries.

The three children are expected to make a full recovery. Sadly, they will grow up without their mother and father.
