The woman accused of fatally stabbing her McDonald’s manager in Eastpointe has been found competent to stand trial.
Afeni Muhammad, 26, was evaluated on September 17, and the report determined she is mentally fit to proceed with her case.
During her October 8 hearing, the judge ruled Muhammad competent and scheduled a preliminary examination.
Muhammad faces a charge of first-degree homicide, a life felony without the possibility of parole, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent, a five-year felony.
The deadly attack occurred just before 8 a.m. on a Thursday at the McDonald’s on 9 Mile Road. Investigators say Muhammad was sent home earlier in her shift after a workplace dispute. She later returned wearing a mask and armed with a knife, then stabbed her manager, 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, multiple times in the face.
Harris, a mother of six, was rushed to the hospital but later died from her injuries.
