Below are some available programs and tips to lower your bills.
DTE Energy Assistance Programs
● State Emergency Relief (SER): Immediate aid for past due bills or home repairs
● Michigan Energy Assistance Program (MEAP): Offers financial aid and energy budgeting tips
● Home Heating Credit: Get tax credits for winter heating bills
● Residential Income Assistance (RIA): Monthly credits for qualifying customers
● Low-Income Self-Sufficiency Plan (LSP): Fixed payment plans to manage bills
● Winter Protection Plans: Prevents shutoffs from Nov. 1 – March 31 with minimum payments
● Shutoff Protection Plan: Year-round protection with monthly payments
● Energy Efficiency Assistance (EEA): Free energy upgrades for income-qualified customers
● Low-Income Weatherization Assistance: Free home improvements to cut energy costs
What can I do to lower my energy bill when it’s cold?
● Set your thermostat to 68°F when home and 65°F or lower when away to cut heating costs by 3% per degree.
● Be mindful of space heaters—they use a lot of energy and can raise your bill.
● Seal air leaks with caulking or weatherstripping to save up to 10% on energy costs.
● Maintain your furnace by changing air filters, cleaning vents, and scheduling tune-ups.
● Use ceiling fans clockwise to push warm air down.
