Driver in stolen car crashes into mother & daughter, leaving both dead before fleeing

A tragic hit-and-run crash last week claimed the lives of a mother and daughter on Detroit’s west side, leaving a family devastated and police searching for the driver responsible.

The crash happened around 1:00 a.m. on April 25 near Lahser and Keeler. According to Detroit police, a white 2017 Audi A4, driven by an unidentified suspect, struck a silver 2005 Hyundai Tucson carrying the two women. The suspect fled from the stolen car on foot after the crash.

Medics pronounced the driver, identified by family as 50-year-old Vera, dead at the scene. Her daughter, 23-year-old Rose, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but passed away the following day after spending time in the ICU.

Vera was picking up Rose from work when the crash happened, according to her family. “My mom was strong-spirited and always helping anyone she could,” said the victims daughter Portia. “My sister loved looking for new ways to help her family and others. They were sweet to everyone.”
