A man is dead after a police chase in Warren Tuesday morning.
According to police, two officers in full uniform and in a marked patrol car were on routine patrol in the area of Van Dyke and Stephens when they attempted to affect a traffic stop on a red 2015 Chevy Cruze for a traffic violation.
Officers approached the Chevy and made contact with the driver (lone occupant). Officers explained the reason for the stop and requested the driver’s identification; however the driver advised officers that he did not have identification, police say.
Officers then requested that the driver exit the Chevy at which time the driver shifted the vehicle into drive and sped away from officers.
At 10 Mile and Ryan, the suspect disregarded a solid red traffic signal for westbound Ryan and struck a Ford-150 and then a Penske Box Truck.
The driver was then pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
