Driver Arrested for DUI After Crash Involving Farmington Police Cruiser on M-5

Three people were hurt after a crash involving a Farmington police cruiser early Sunday morning on M-5 near Drake Road.

The Farmington Public Safety Department says the crash happened around 1:00 a.m. while officers were assisting Farmington Hills Police with a traffic stop on eastbound M-5.

According to investigators, a vehicle rear-ended the stationary Farmington police car. The impact caused the vehicle to spin, where it was then struck head-on by another eastbound vehicle.

The driver who caused the crash was arrested by Farmington Hills Police for operating under the influence.

The officer and both civilian drivers were taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries, and are expected to fully recover.

The Farmington Hills Police Traffic Unit is investigating. Officials are reminding drivers to slow down and move over for all stationary emergency vehicles.
