Emergency public safety alerts were sent to phones Wednesday evening warning residents of potential severe thunderstorms expected between 8 PM and 2 AM.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), storms may develop across Southeast Michigan late this evening, bringing damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph. Forecasters also warn that a possible isolated weak tornado is possible.
Earlier today at 1 PM, a statewide tornado drill was conducted as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, but this alert is not part of the test.
