The city of Detroit, Detroit Branch NAACP President Reverend Wendell Anthony and faith leaders unveiled a statue of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in downtown on Friday, exactly 60 years after he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech in Detroit.
He gave the speech two months before delivering it in Washington, D.C. at the iconic March on Washington on the National Mall. Rev. King called the march in Detroit “the largest and greatest demonstration for freedom ever held in the United States.”
Over 125,000 people participated in the walk on June 23, 1963.
