Detroit’s Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship has unveiled the final installation in its series of nine city Art Alleys. The newest space — Passage to Wellbeing Alley — is designed to promote mental health, community connection, and access to nature.
Rochelle Riley, Detroit’s Director of Arts and Culture, highlighted the project’s connection to Mayor Mike Duggan Blight to Beauty initiative, which transforms neglected areas into vibrant public spaces that inspire pride across neighborhoods.
The Art Alleys initiative was made possible by a $3 million allocation from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), approved by the Detroit City Council.
“This is a trailblazing project,” Riley said, noting that alley transformations could soon expand citywide through resident-led efforts.
Riley also spoke on behalf of Tammy Black, owner of Passage to Wellbeing, saying:
“It’s amazing when you see the beauty of this. Look at what we can do when we act like who we are. Art is not a hobby — it is a business.”
Residents are encouraged to explore all nine completed Art Alleys across Detroit, each showcasing a unique vision of creativity, healing, and hope.1. North End Arts Alley
