Detroit police officer shot, suspect dead

An officer was injured and a 16-year-old is dead after a shootout Thursday night.

The incident happened on Neff Street, near I-94 and Moross.

Police say officers were patrolling the area due to a recent spike in break-ins. While on patrol, they spotted three masked individuals near a building and began to investigate.

One person was detained, while two others ran on foot. As officers attempted to detain one of the fleeing suspects, he pulled out a handgun and shot an officer in the hand. Officers returned fire, fatally striking the teen.

The officer is expected to recover.

The third suspect remains on the run. The investigation is ongoing.
