A Detroit police officer was shot and killed Wednesday on the city’s west side.
Officers were responding to a shots fired call in the area of Joy Rd & Hubbell, and when they arrived, the suspect immediately started firing.
Police say the suspect used a DRACO-style weapon to shoot the officers. It was previously reported that it was an AK-47. One officer was struck in the neck and chest.
His partner fired back at the suspect and fatally wounded him.
The officer was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Detroit Police Chief James White said the officer was a 5-year veteran in the department. He left behind a son and daughter. The officer’s father was also a DPD officer who recently retired.
