Detroit police officer rushed to hospital after being run over by car

A Detroit police officer was injured after he was dragged by a car Tuesday night.

The incident happened in the block of St. Mary, near 7 Mile and Greenfield.

Officers were on routine patrol when they saw a car blocking the sidewalk.

They put a light on the car and saw two occupants attempting to stuff something under their seats, according to Detroit Police Assistant Chief Fitzgerald. They approached on foot and attempted to get the occupants out of the car, but they did not comply.

The driver of the car backed up, hit a car, then drove forward and hit the Detroit police officer’s car, then turned the car, pulled forward, and dragged the officer, police said.

Two officers who were on the scene fired multiple shots while the incident unfolded. An 18-year-old inside of the car was later found around the corner. He was shot multiple times and listed in critical condition.

The officer is expected to be okay.

A manhunt is still underway for the other outstanding suspect, a 17-year-old.
