Detroit police have identified two people allegedly involved in a shooting that injured two others during Monday night’s fireworks celebration in downtown.
The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. on June 23 near Larned and Randolph streets. Investigators say a physical altercation broke out between a 17-year-old male and another young man, reportedly over $200 in unpaid debt. During the dispute, the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the teenager.
A 22-year-old woman, who police say was not involved in the confrontation, was also struck by gunfire. Both victims were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
Following the shooting, the suspect and an unidentified accomplice fled the scene through a nearby parking garage.
The suspect has been identified as 19-year-old Alphonso Cooper Jr. (the shooter) from Romulus and 17-year-old Markalowe Keith Steen Jr. (person of interest) from Brownstown.
Police believe that family and friends are helping him hide from police and could be at a hotel.
Authorities are offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to their arrest. Anyone who may recognize the individuals or has information about the case is urged to contact Detroit Police at 313-267-4600 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
