Detroit police bust multi-million dollar car crush scheme, illegal grow operation

Detroit police busted an auto shop that was allegedly crushing hundreds of stolen cars. While conducting a search warrant they also stumbled on a illegal marijuana grow operation.

The search warrant happened Wednesday night on Schaefer Road south of I-96 in Detroit.

According to authorities, they received a tip saying an auto shop was using a portable car crusher. Police say they weren’t allowed to crush vehicles in that area due to city zoning.

After they launched an investigation, they learned they were allegedly crushing stolen vehicles to either sell for scrap or hide the evidence after stripping them. They believed they crushed over 100 vehicles.

While conducting the search warrant, they stumbled on a building. After receiving a 2nd search warrant for the building, they went inside & found an illegal marijuana grow operation.

Police say they arrested 2 people. The investigation is ongoing.
