A Detroit gas station has been shut down following a shooting that occurred during a verbal altercation between an employee and a customer on Monday night.
The incident took place around 9:20 p.m. at a gas station located on McNichols near Conant. According to the Detroit Police Department, the argument escalated, leading the clerk to grab a shotgun and fire a shot from behind the counter. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries from shattered glass.
On Tuesday, DPD alongside the Detroit Building, Safety, and Environmental Department (BSEED) and the city’s law department, shut the station down. Assistant Police Chief Franklin Hayes spoke to the media during the closure, emphasizing the department’s commitment to holding businesses accountable for endangering community safety.
“You will operate with regard, you will operate with respect, and you will treat the residents—our community—just that way. And there’s no wavering from that,” Hayes stated. He added that there was no threat that justified the use of a firearm.”
