Detroit Police has announced a new plan to try and curb violence in downtown Detroit as summer approaches.
The plan comes after 6 separate shootings in downtown Detroit in two days
Part of that plan includes DPD paying a $250 reward for tips on people who are illegally possessing a gun. They will also pay $250 to arrest that lead to the confiscation of ATVS. (detroitmi.gov/departments/police-department/detroit-rewards-tv)
“For the safety of our business owners, employees, residents and those who live, work, and play in our city, you are going to see an increased police presence going forward,” Detroit Police Chief James White said.
Here is what his new 12-point plan consists of:
- Implement mid-Summer deployment / Increased police presence
• Increased police presence - Community education/community groups
- Strategic / timed vehicular shutdowns • Hard road closures
- Strategic / timed vehicular shutdowns
- No parking zones
- Hard road closures / No parking zones
- DPW lighting in Greektown and Riverwalk
- Business Inspections
- Enforce parent responsibility ordinance
- DPW lighting in Greektown and Riverwalk
- Enforce public alcohol consumption ordinance
- Incorporate Eagle Eye Hotline
- Deploy video wall monitors
- Enforce curfew/parent responsibility
- Enforce public alcohol consumption ordinance
- Enforce noise ordinance
- Implement Rewards TV
Detroit Police also announced last week that a new curfew is in place. The curfew starts at 10 p.m. for anyone age 15 and under, and 11 p.m. for minors age 16 and 17.
