A Detroit mother was sentenced to prison today after she killed her 3-year-old son and hid his body in a freezer.
33-year-old Azuradee France pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in early July of this year. She received a sentence of 35-60 years in prison on Monday as part of a sentencing agreement.
The child, identified as Chayse, was blind and suffered from multiple disabilities, according to family. His body was discovered at their home on Monte Vista, in the area of I-96 & Grand River, following a requested well-being check.
When police arrived at the scene, they spoke with the mother and sensed that something was wrong. After conducting a search of the home, they found Chayse’s body inside a basement freezer.
He had not been seen for months, with the mother telling family members that he had been given away and neighbors that he was with relatives.
France later admitted to police that she kicked her son in the chest out of frustration in March 2022. When he did not wake up the next morning, she placed his body in a bag and stashed it in the basement freezer. Several other kids were also at the home when this happened .
The boy’s family told the MDN at the time of the incident that Child Protective Services had been called multiple times but were unable to gain entry to the home and nothing was ever done.
