A mother has been arrested for allegedly murdering her 9-year-old son and burying him in the backyard of her Detroit home, officials announced Wednesday.
The discovery of the child’s remains was made on January 6, 2025, by construction workers hired to fix the home located on Woodingham, near Outer Drive and Livernois.
According to authorities, after the child died, the mother tied the child’s hands and feet together, buried him behind the garage, and then fled with her other 3-year-old son to Atlanta, Georgia, in October of 2024.
Prosecutors said in a news presser say the cause of death was smothering and neck compression.
Brandee Katrice Pierce, 41, was arrested and is expected to be arraigned on first-degree murder charges after being extradited to Michigan.
