Detroit man ordered pizza & chicken twice then robbed both delivery drivers

A Detroit man is facing federal charges after authorities say he carried out two armed robberies against food delivery drivers just days apart.

According to a criminal complaint, Deron Finkley is charged with two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery for incidents on August 1 and August 3, 2025.

First Robbery:
Just after midnight on August 1, Detroit police were called to the area of Telegraph and Schoolcraft. Investigators say a male pizza delivery driver for Papa’s Pizza told officers he was delivering an order to a home on Riverview Street when no one answered the door.

The driver said he then received a call from a different number than the one that placed the order, telling him they were in the backyard. Moments later, a man — later identified as Finkley — allegedly ran up with a handgun equipped with a green beam and demanded he get out of his car and hand over his money.

Police say Finkley then drove off in the victim’s 1995 green Ford Taurus, which also contained several pizzas and the victim’s cellphone.

Second Robbery
Two days later, a female DoorDash driver reported being robbed in the area of Riverdale and Davison. She told police she was delivering pizza and chicken when two men approached her car.

One of them, armed with a large firearm, allegedly told her to “Get the f*ck out of the car!” before striking her in the face. She said she got out and lay on the ground as the men stole two pizzas and three boxes of chicken before walking away.

According to the complaint, she briefly lost consciousness and suffered bruising and a black eye.

Finkley was arrested the next day by Detroit police on an unrelated weapons charge. Officers say he had a black 9mm with no serial number, an extended magazine, and a “Glock switch,” a device that makes the gun fully automatic.

After being advised of his rights, Finkley agreed to speak with the FBI. Investigators say he admitted to both robberies, telling them he ordered food to each location and took it when the drivers arrived.

In the August 3 case, Finkley denied having a weapon and claimed he accidentally struck the victim in the face with a pizza box during a struggle.
