Detroit man charged after stealing nearly $600,000 while working as Brink’s delivery driver

A Detroit man has been charged with theft and embezzlement following the disappearance of over half a million dollars from multiple ATMs.

According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court, Antwaun Daniels, a former employee of Brink’s Inc., allegedly embezzled $592,160 while delivering and securing cash to ATMs.

From January 2024 to October 21, 2024, Daniels was assigned to service twelve ATMs owned by Bank of America, Comerica Bank, and JP Morgan Chase Bank—all FDIC-insured institutions.

The theft was discovered on October 28, 2024, when a Brink’s Detroit Branch ATM Manager noted significant shortages from the prior week. An internal audit revealed discrepancies on service dates including October 3, October 18, and October 21, 2024.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed Daniels unplugging the internal camera system inside his Brink’s armored truck on October 21, 2024.

Daniels texted his supervisor that day, claiming he had to leave work due to a family emergency and did not return to his job thereafter.

During a follow-up call with Brink’s corporate security on November 13, 2024, Daniels admitted to unplugging the camera system and agreed to return $400,000, but never followed through with the arrangement. He also stopped responding to Brink’s management.

The FBI’s investigation led to Daniels being charged.
