A Detroit man was charged after he posted photos of a gun and even went live on Instagram with someone who he didn’t know was an undercover federal agent.
Trevon Mathis was a felon and wasn’t allowed to possess weapons.
According to the criminal complaint, on July 30, 2022, Trevon posted a Glock firearm to his Instagram story. The story was captioned, “Name your price.”
“I compared the individual depicted in the images and videos as the account user to a Michigan Department of Corrections image of Trevon. I identified Trevon as the individual. I conducted a video call with the Instagram User ID “triggatrey.723,” while acting in an undercover capacity, and identified Trevon as the account user,” the federal agent wrote in the criminal complaint.
According to the criminal complaint, on August 17, 2022, the federal agents also visited Trevons sister’s Instagram account and viewed her stories.
One of her stories had Trevon in possession of a suspected Glock firearm. Trevon is driving the vehicle and has a suspected Glock firearm in his possession. While brandishing the firearm, Trevon is rapping to lyrics discussing sh**ting up a club and the “feds coming.” In addition, Trevon makes the “shh” symbol, according to the criminal complaint.
On August 26, Trevon was allegedly involved in a crash while driving a Jeep on the Lodge Freeway. A pistol was recovered from the vehicle, according to the affidavit.
Trevon fled the scene but federal agents obtained a search warrant for his Instagram messages and later learned he was the driver.
According to the affidavit, on August 16, an Instagram user asked Trevon, “Damn we’re y’all going?” Trevon responded, “Downtown…River walk ok drunk now.”
The Instagram user stated, “Smhh” and asked, “Y’all crashed into somebody?” Trevon responded, “Man into the wall.” The Instagram user asked Trevon, “Who was all in the car?” Trevon stated, “I was in the jeep.”
In addition to the messages, he made several posts following the crash saying he was just involved in a crash.
