The Detroit Fire Department just got a major upgrade with new fire trucks and ambulances now on the streets.
The $10.7 million investment adds 10 fire engines, 13 ambulances, three Battalion Chief vehicles, and three EMS Supervisor SUVs to the fleet.
Detroit’s average emergency response time is now under 7 minutes and 30 seconds, faster than most major cities in the country.
In the past, the department’s older vehicles often broke down, causing delays. The new fleet replaces that aging equipment with modern, dependable trucks built with advanced safety features.
City leaders say keeping the fleet in top condition helps protect residents and first responders by reducing delays and making sure help gets to emergencies as quickly as possible.
