Detroit feds see increase in Glock switches

Detroit federal agents are sounding the alarm on a growing problem: “Glock Switch.” One such modified firearm can discharge up to 1,200 rounds per minute.

The same device can transform semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic weapons. The device have been flooding the streets and are no larger than a nickel.

“We’ve observed a 600% increase nationwide in the recovery of firearms equipped with these devices,” James Deir, the Special Agent in Charge for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in #Michigan said.

“Under federal law, this seemingly innocuous device is classified as a machine gun,” U.S. Attorney Dawn Ison for the Eastern District of Michigan said. “Possession alone can result in a prison sentence of up to ten years.”

The Glock Switch allows the weapon to fire continuously with a single pull of the trigger.

“These devices are being glamorized on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, especially by gang members and juveniles. It’s creating a dangerous allure for these modifications,” said Deir.
