Detroit father charged after allegedly assaulting 9-month-old daughter to death

A Detroit father has been charged with the homicide of his 9-month-old daughter.

Charles Evans, 24, has been charged has been charged with Felony Murder and First-Degree Child Abuse. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the defendant’s arrest on March 16, 2024. 

In June 2023, 9-month-old Kinsley Evans was rushed to the hospital when she stopped breathing inside an apartment in the area of I-96 and Schaefer. Prosecutors say her father fatally assaulted her. Sources tell us she had bruises all over her body.

The family said they attempted to regain custody of the baby for weeks before her death, but the system failed them.

Kinsley was in the care of her father since Memorial Day. The care was supposed to be temporary, but the father wouldn’t give her back. The family has been in contact with CPS and the court for weeks but had no luck.

“Baby Kinsley lived a very short life of pain. The alleged facts are unbelievably tragic in this case. The injuries inflicted on this nine-month-old baby are too numerous to fathom,” said Prosecutor Kym Worthy.
