Detroit EMTs Help Deliver Twin Girls, Reunite and Surprise Family with Gifts

2 Detroit EMTs reunited with a mother and her newborn twin girls after helping deliver the babies during an unexpected home birth on July 1.

Jessica Johnson, who was 32 weeks pregnant, went into labor at her home in the area of Gratiot & I-94. She didn’t know she was about to give birth until her water broke. Her brother called for help, and EMTs Bacarri Stanley and Michael Bache arrived just in time to assist with the delivery.

The babies, Jaliyah and Janiyah, were born minutes apart. Bache and Stanley had only recently been certified and had never delivered a baby before. Despite that, they kept calm and acted fast as the second baby was born right after the first.

Today, the EMTs visited Johnson and her twin girls to check in and bring supplies, including car seats, diapers, and other baby essentials.

Johnson said the delivery was scary, but everything turned out well. Her twin girls are healthy.

The Detroit Fire Department says it’s not often for EMTs to deliver a baby, especially two, making this moment a memorable one for the entire team.
