“The demolition of 100 commercial properties over the last year, signifies not only a triumph over blight but also a testament to the perseverance and dedication of the entire Detroit Construction & Demolition team,” said LaJuan Counts, director of the Construction & Demolition Department. “Their tireless work is reshaping the city skyline, removing dangerously blighted structures and paving the way for new opportunities and development.”

The 100th commercial demolition since was at the former Hanneman Elementary School at 6420 McGraw. It’s one of many long-vacant Detroit schools that the City has said they are committed to removing over the next several months.

“The Detroit Construction & Demolition Department continues to collaborate closely with community stakeholders, city officials, and residents to identify and prioritize areas with unsightly commercial blight. Through comprehensive planning and execution, the department remains steadfast in its mission to enhance the quality of life for all Detroit residents,” the demolition department said in a news release.
