Detroit cop charged with stealing other officer’s shoes from their lockers

A Detroit police officer was charged for allegedly stealing sneakers from his fellow officers.

Prosecutors say 27-year-old James Clark Davis III took multiple pairs of sneakers from a locker room at the Detroit Police Department’s Downtown Services spot on Atwater Street. This happened between September 4, 2024, and January 9, 2025.

Davis is charged with three counts of stealing in a building and one count of hiding stolen stuff worth $200 to $1,000. He went to court today at 36th District Court and got a $25,000 personal bond.

Investigators put a tracker in a pair of high end sneakers to catch the thief. Sure enough, those shoes went missing, and the tracker led them to Davis’ home.
