Dearborn Attorney Says Tea App Linked to 12 Divorce Cases

A Dearborn attorney says a women-only social app that lets users anonymously share information about men has fueled a wave of divorces in the area.

Mohamed Ali Hammoud, an attorney at @mouradlawgroup in Dearborn, told TCD News he is personally handling about a dozen divorce cases linked to the Tea app. The platform, billed as a “dating safety app for women,” allows users to post photos, names and messages of men they’ve interacted with – sometimes exposing infidelity to spouses and family members.

“What the app did was it exposed one party and embarrassed the other party,” Hammoud said. “Seeing your spouse online in a public post with a female or seeing screenshots of messages of your husband talking to another female really intensified the need for a divorce.”

He said that in many of his cases, suspicions of cheating that may have once been dealt with privately are now magnified once the allegations spread online.

“Following this app, now your family knows about it, now your friends know about it, now the community knows about it,” Hammoud said. “And when you have all these voices in your head, you tend to act a little bit differently.”
