Davis Aerospace High School returns at Coleman Young Airport, Providing Hands-On Flight Training for 200 Students

After more than a decade, Davis Aerospace Technical High School is set to return to its original home at Coleman A. Young International Airport on Detroit’s east side.

The move, part of a major investment in workforce development, will allow the aviation-focused school to double its enrollment from 100 to 200 students. The new facility will give students direct access to airport terminals, flight training opportunities, and state-of-the-art aviation equipment.

The specialized high school has operated from Golightly Career and Technical Center since 2013. That change occurred when the school district was under emergency management, which led to its removal from the City Airport site.

Renovations are set to begin soon on the 53,000-square-foot terminal, with the building expected to open for students in Fall 2026.

The school’s return is part of a broader $32 million investment that also includes redevelopment of the former Cooley High School into a sports and community complex.
