Corrosive Acid Spill from Semi-Truck Shuts Down 8 Mile Near Middlebelt

A corrosive acid spill from a semi-truck has shut down 8 Mile Road near Middle Belt on the Livonia and Farmington Hills border.

The incident, which occurred around 4:00 p.m. today, has prompted a large-scale response from emergency crews, including a Hazmat team. All roads in the surrounding area are currently blocked off as cleanup efforts are underway.

“Due to the nature of this hazard, the Western Wayne Hazardous Materials Response Team was activated. The hazmat technicians on this team are firefighters from the surrounding area, including Farmington Hills. The hazmat technicians wore specialized level A hazmat suits to enter the semi-trailer and stop the leak,” Farmington Hills said in a social media post.

It’s unknown how the spill occurred, and according to authorities, the name of the acid is Ferric Chloride.
