Nearly 200 residents and Dearborn Heights police officers rallied in support of Interim Police Chief Hussein Farhat after Mayor Bill Bazzi announced a nationwide search for a new police chief, returning Farhat to his role as Deputy Chief.
The decision has sparked backlash, with Sgt. Nicholas Szopko, Union President for the Dearborn Heights Police, publicly criticizing Bazzi’s move, calling it unnecessary and disruptive to the department.
Bazzi defended the decision, citing a commitment to best practices and transparency within the force.
