Community Comes Together to Clean Up Trash Across Detroit

By Benicia Ciara, TMDN

Community members gathered in Southwest Detroit to take part in a neighborhood cleanup effort.

Local artist and organizer Tommy Papi @tommypapi has teamed up with All Notes TTV, and on Sunday, they led a cleanup along the I-75 freeway and Vernor Highway.

This isn’t just a one-time effort — it’s a growing movement. What began 4 years ago as a promotional push for one of Tommy Papi’s music projects has transformed into a mission to uplift neighborhoods through environmental action.

“We’re out here bringing awareness and environmental friendliness,” said Tommy Papi. “Trying to clean up the streets and let everyone know that we care about them.”

The cleanup crew has targeted high-traffic areas across Detroit. The goal? Not just to clear debris, but to reinforce a culture of care and community.

The event wasn’t just about trash bags and gloves. It was about visibility and claiming space. While reminding Detroiters that the city is ours to nurture.

“People come to party in these areas, but we want them to understand — this is a place of community,” he said. “It’s clean, it’s people who care in here.”

The event is part of a larger initiative hosted by All Notes TTV, which also organizes food and clothing drives while bridging artists and brands to expand their impact across the city of Detroit.

You can follow their journey and support future events at @all.notes.ttv on social media. The crew is already planning their next clean-up in the coming weeks.

“It turned into something beautiful that became bigger than me… and I just want to keep doing it forever,” he said.
