City Program Connects 8,000+ Detroit Teens with Summer Jobs

Detroit has officially launched the 2025 summer jobs season for its Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT) program, opening up paid work opportunities for 8,054 local youth between the ages of 14 and 24.

This marks the 11th year of the program, which was started by @michaeleduggan in 2015. Since then, GDYT has provided a total of 87,734 jobs to young Detroiters, helping them gain real-world experience and build pathways toward future careers or education.

This year’s launch event took place at the Northwest Activities Center, where more than 100 Junior Police Cadets gathered to kick off their summer work. Cadets will assist in various neighborhoods while learning about public safety and community leadership.

The program has raised more than $12 million to fund this year’s jobs. These positions range from corporate internships and tech roles to hands-on jobs in parks, public safety, and city operations.

Since its creation, GDYT has connected thousands of young Detroiters to job experience, mentoring, and career training. The program continues through mid-August.
