Charges dismissed against metro Detroit father falsely accused of armed robbery, police impersonation

A man who was falsely accused of an armed robbery he didn’t commit is finally free after all charges against him were dismissed six months later.

In August 2023, an armed robbery and home invasion occurred in Ferndale. Police reported that the suspects in the case impersonated police officers and approached a 65-year-old resident as he exited his home. Ferndale Police announced in December that three men were charged after an investigation with the help of the FBI.

One of the men was 37-year-old Trevor Glenn, a hardworking & successful home remodeling contractor, whose life was turned upside down after local police and federal agents raided his home in West Bloomfield.

Trevor Glenn, his wife Lavella, and their children were inside their home when police surrounded the place, went inside, and placed him under arrest.

“They threw him down to the ground, put their knee on his back, and never told him why he was under arrest,” Trevor’s wife, Levella, told MDN. “The neighbors were recording; it made it all over the news. Our children, family, friends, and his clients all saw it.”

He had many well-known clients, including Jalen Rose and Devin Funchess, according to Trevor. He lost over $100,000 due to the wrongful accusation.

Investigators connected Trevor to one of the suspects charged because they were close friends.

“Because I know a person doesn’t mean I had anything to do with it,” Trevor said.

After being charged in December, Trevor was back in court for a preliminary exam, but it was adjourned multiple times. Eventually, prosecutors dropped all six felony charges but a misdemeanor charge of impersonating a police officer.

“They tried offering me probation for something I didn’t do. Why would I admit to something I know I didn’t do? You guys knew you were wrong, so you guys (prosecutors) are going to offer me probation. They did that because they knew they messed up.”

Trevor declined the deal and kept fighting for his innocence. The charge was dismissed in June of this year, and Trevor became a free man.

“I thought my life was over. It hurt me the most when my children asked me why they see my face all over the news,” Trevor said.

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office released the following statement:

“Upon further investigation, law enforcement determined that Mr. Glenn was not involved in the incident in question. Based on this evidence, charges were dismissed. Our office is always committed to thoroughly reviewing all available information to ensure we are focused on fair and just prosecutions.”
