Body of missing man found in sewer identified as Detroit father of 5

The body of a missing man found in a sewer on Detroit’s west side has been identified by family as 28-year-old Jermaine Fairley.

The recovery was made Friday, February 2, in the area of I-96 and Greenfield.

“On Saturday, January 27, 2024, Jermaine was leaving a friend’s funeral and repassing and hanging out with “so-called” friends a few houses down from his home. There was some type of argument and those same “So Called” friends shot Jermaine in the head, then proceeded to throw him in his own car and fleed the block. Two hours later Jermaine’s car was found set in flames, but nobody was inside,” his mother, Tamika, wrote in his GoFundMe.

At this time, it’s unknown on what led police to the area of where his body was located. Police have not announced any charges or arrests as of Tuesday morning.

Jermaine leaves behind five young children. A GoFundMe has been started to help pay for a proper funeral: https://gofund.me/41b003f3
