Berkley to consider banning carnivals in the city after Berkley Day festival fights

After nearly 100 years of tradition, the Berkley City Council is considering banning the annual Berkley Days and any carnival in the city due to rising safety concerns.

The proposal comes after two consecutive years of incidents that disrupted the family-friendly event.

There were multiple altercations involving teenagers, which created panic and forced families to flee the festival in May. Video above captures attendees running for their lives.

The incidents have placed strain on local law enforcement resources. Despite increased security measures, the situation has not got better. The event this year required 41 officers— 25 others were called in from neighboring communities.

The Berkley City Council will address the proposal to ban future carnivals at their meeting on Monday at 7 p.m.
