Belle Isle Beach closes due to high bacteria levels

Belle Isle Beach has shut down today due to high bacteria levels.

The DNR said the beach would be closed until further notice. E. coli is a bacteria commonly found in the waters.

Infections usually occur when the bacteria enters a person’s mouth and nose. Symptoms of E. coli include nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever.

According to the CDC, each year in the United States, E. Coli infections cause approximately 265,000 illnesses and about 100 deaths.
