UPDATE: The suspect is in custody.
An armed employee has barricaded himself inside Stellantis’ Sterling Heights Assembly Plant.
The incident occurred Saturday afternoon at the automaker’s facility on Van Dyke Avenue near 16 Mile.
According to officials, all employees present have been safely evacuated, and first responders remain on scene as the situation unfolds.
Despite reports circulating on social media, this is not an “active shooter” situation.
Police have identified the individual as a current employee of the plant. The motive behind the standoff remains unknown.
The facility was not in full operation at the time, with only a limited number of staff on-site due to the plant being idle over the weekend.
Law enforcement has secured the perimeter and is working to negotiate a peaceful resolution. No injuries have been reported.
