A Taste of Culture: ‘Hungry Black Man’ Festival Takes Over Avalon Village

Where food tells the story of a city’s spirit, Detroit’s 3rd Annual ‘Hungry Black Man’ Food Festival is back and bigger than ever.

Set in the heart of Highland Park’s Avalon Village, this vibrant two-day event celebrates the richness of Black culinary talent across Detroit and beyond. From classic soul food to bold Caribbean flavors, savory barbecue to flavorful Asian and Mexican dishes, this festival is a true celebration of culture, flavor, and community.

This year, guests can explore a buzzing Maker’s Market featuring artisan vendors, local fashion, handcrafted goods, and more. And with live music scheduled all weekend long, you’re invited to grab your lawn chair, bring your friends, and enjoy the city’s best food with nonstop entertainment.

Last year, over 10,000 people showed up. This year? More than 3,000 tickets have already been claimed—and the event is still completely free.

What to expect:
• Two full days of food, music, and culture—no admission fee
• Dozens of Black-owned food vendors, plus rising stars in Detroit’s food scene
• Avalon Village: a unique, community-run venue unlike any other
• Live performances, dancing, and real Detroit energy

Whether you’re coming for the ribs, the rhythm, or the vibes—you’ll leave full and inspired.
