Mother & daughter safe after being kidnapped at gunpoint in Detroit

A mother and daughter are safe after being kidnapped at gunpoint Friday afternoon in Detroit.

Police say it happened around 12:00 p.m. in the 14500 block of Trinity, near I-96 and Outer Drive. The two women, in their 20s and 40s, were taken at gunpoint by two men.

Around 2:30 p.m., Michigan State Police assisted Detroit Police after officers reported a possible body dumped on Belle Isle. A MSP sergeant spotted a silver Ford Focus matching the suspect vehicle leaving the island and stopped it on Jefferson Avenue near East Grand Boulevard.

The license plate confirmed it was the suspect vehicle. Detroit Police arrived, and the two male suspects along with the vehicle were turned over to them.

The kidnapped victims were later found unharmed near where the initial incident occurred after they managed to escape.

“Another collaborative effort between MSP and DPD,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “Fortunately, these suspects were taken into custody before someone was seriously hurt.”

Police say the relationship between the suspects and victims remains unknown.
