First Look Inside Hudson’s Detroit: Shops, Rooftop Lounge & Office Space

Bedrock photos

Bedrock has finished the first part of the Hudson’s Detroit project with the opening of a 12-story building at 1240 Woodward Avenue.

The building includes offices, retail shops, a rooftop lounge, and community spaces. Tenants include General Motors, ROCK, ALO, Tecovas, and more. The space adds over 400,000 square feet of new Class A office space to downtown.

Inside, the building features open office layouts, skyline views, and modern amenities such as:

• A café with grab-and-go meals

• Fitness center and private training rooms

• Sports simulator and pickleball area

• The Den — a lounge and library space

• Underground parking and meeting rooms

General Motors’ new headquarters will take up several top floors, with a public lobby and showroom called “Entrance One” at the corner of Woodward Avenue and Nick Gilbert Way. The name honors the original entrance of the old J.L. Hudson’s store.

Nick Gilbert Way, named after Dan and Jennifer Gilbert’s late son, will open November 6. The new plaza will connect Woodward Avenue to Farmer Street and include public seating, pop-up shops, art, and a daily coffee truck called Un Deux Trois.

Retailers are also moving in. ALO opened in August, and Tecovas opens October 10. More stores will be announced soon, joining others nearby like Apple, Nike, Lululemon, H&M, and The Lip Bar.

The next phase of the project — a 45-story tower at 1208 Woodward Avenue — will open in 2027. It will include The Detroit EDITION Hotel, luxury condos, restaurants, and rooftop dining.

Hudson’s Detroit sits on the site of the old J.L. Hudson Department Store, once a major downtown landmark. Bedrock says the project aims to honor Detroit’s history while building its future, transforming the block into a new centerpiece for the city.
