State police ask for help identifying woman found lying on I-96 in Detroit

UPDATE: She has been identified

Michigan State Police are investigating after a woman was found lying along the shoulder of the eastbound I-96 ramp to Greenfield late Sunday night.

Troopers were called to the area around 10:10 p.m. on October 5 after the Detroit Regional Communication Center received reports of a woman on the ramp. When troopers arrived, they found a Black woman believed to be in her 30s lying face down but conscious and semi-coherent.

Investigators say there was no evidence she had been struck by a vehicle, and several witnesses who stopped to help said they did not see her get hit. Doctors reported she had an abrasion on her left hip and road rash on her back. It remains unclear if she was hit by a car or possibly assaulted and pushed out of a vehicle.

The woman has not yet been identified. She is described as Black, in her 30s, about 5′1″ to 5′3″ tall, weighing around 130 pounds, and may have been wearing a light red or pink wig.

Anyone with information about her identity or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Michigan State Police at 734-287-5000
