The suspected gunman in Sunday’s deadly church attack in Grand Blanc, Michigan, has been identified by police as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, an Iraq War veteran.
At least 10 people were shot Sunday morning at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on McCandlish Road near Holly Road, just outside Flint.
Police say the attacker rammed a vehicle through the church’s front doors during a service with hundreds of people inside, then got out and opened fire.
Authorities now confirm five people are dead, including the suspected gunman.
Investigators say the fire inside the church was intentionally set, and police also found IED-type explosive devices in the suspect’s truck.
The gunman was fatally shot by responding officers. So far, no official motive has been released.
Police said they would searching the building for anyone who could not be reached earlier because of the fire.
