DEA agents carried out multiple search warrants early Thursday morning as part of a major federal narcotics investigation.
Speaking exclusively with MDN, Andy Lawton, the acting special agent in charge for the DEA Detroit Division stated, “We have four in custody. We’ve seized multiple kilos of narcotics and a significant amount of cash.”
Lawton described the searches as targeting “the highest level violators,” emphasizing the impact of dangerous drugs on metro Detroit neighborhoods.
“These drugs impact our community. They are wreaking havoc,” he told MDN. “We do everything we can to get that off the street and to get those responsible in front of justice.”
The search warrants were executed at multiple locations including Detroit, Redford, Farmington Hills, and more.
DEA say they seized kilos of suspected fentanyl and heroin. Just 2mg of fentanyl — about the amount on the tip of a pencil — can be enough to lead an average adult dead.
In 2024, the DEA Detroit Division seized enough fentanyl to deliver a potentially lethal dose to the entire population of Michigan.
