Michigan State Police (MSP) is hosting a hiring event on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Mumford High School, 17525 Wyoming Ave. in Detroit. Doors will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and the event runs until 4 p.m.
The event is designed to fast-track applicants through several key steps of the hiring process in one day. That includes fitness testing, the Entry Level Law Enforcement Exam, oral panels, preliminary background checks, application assistance, and hiring interviews.
“It’s going to knock you through the first five or six parts of the process where normally you would have to go up to Lansing to do these in different phases,” said MSP F/Lt. Mike Shaw.
Shaw said that this is the last chance to get into the next recruit school, which starts in January. Applicants must meet requirements.
“For one you can’t have any felonies and even if they’re expunged or anything like that you can’t have anything on your record as far as that goes. Your driving history has to be pretty good.“
Candidates must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or GED. College is recommended but not required.
“A trooper at their full scale, will be making over $100,000 a year. Also, that’s without overtime or any shift differential or anything. That’s just a straight salary. There’s also gonna be a bump in pay for our recruits. If you go to the recruit school, you start getting paid that day.”
MSP encourages applicants to pre-register online at michigan.gov/MSP. Walk-ins may be accepted, but pre-registration is recommended.
“We’re looking at probably about 300 applicants to show up here and right now today we’re already at we’re just about 203.”
