Four suspects have been charged following a series of illegal drag racing and stunt driving incidents in Detroit that prosecutors say endangered the community, left two people struck by vehicles, and led to police chases.
Court records show all four defendants were arraigned this week in 36th District Court on felony charges. Judges and prosecutors described the cases as serious threats to public safety, pointing to videos posted on social media showing vehicles shutting down intersections for donuts and burnouts.
The Defendants
• Michael Doolin, 18, is charged with weapons-carrying concealed.
• Bryce Alexander Van-Sipe, 18, is also charged with weapons-carrying concealed.
• Tristin Robert Dommer, 19, faces two felonies: police officer fleeing – 4th degree and felony firearm.
• Uzziah Grosswiler, 23, is charged with police officer fleeing – 3rd degree.
Prosecutors said the vehicle tied to Doolin and Van-Sipe was caught on video during a drag racing takeover in Detroit where two people were struck. They added that both 18-year-olds were later stopped in that same car, where officers recovered two-guns.
In Dommer’s case, prosecutors said he escalated the danger by fleeing from officers.
“When the driver of his vehicle… fled from officers and then struck an officer’s police vehicle while officers were still inside… Street racing is highly dangerous… he put officers’ lives at risk,” the prosecutor told the court.
Prosecutors also revealed that when Dommer was arrested, officers found an AR-rifle in the back seat of his vehicle. They said he drove off despite police commands to stop, and emphasized that he came from Auburn Hills to take part in the Detroit street racing event.
Grosswiler’s case involved similar allegations of fleeing. The judge noted he was already alleged to have been drag racing in Flat Rock and questioned why he would come up to Detroit to engage in the same activity, saying it created a dangerous situation for city residents.
Police and prosecutors described the incidents as part of illegal “takeovers,” where groups of drivers block intersections to perform donuts, burnouts, and drag races.
