Suspect Steals Car, Dumps Child on Street After Realizing They Were Inside

A child is safe after a vehicle was stolen with them inside on Wednesday afternoon.

It happened in the 18600 block of Freeland, near Lodge and Meyers. According to police, a parent left the child inside a running white Ford Escape while going into a nearby location.

When the parent came back outside, the vehicle was gone.

Police say the suspect drove the stolen car around the block, dropped the child off, and then fled in the vehicle.

Detroit EMS checked the child, who was unharmed.

“Situations like this can be avoided. The Detroit Police Department strongly suggests that adults do not leave any children inside of an unattended vehicle. It is imperative that parents know where their children are at all times,” said Deputy Chief Jacqueline Pritchett.
